A record number of local schools have indicated their participation in Rotary’s Fun Walk and Run on Sunday, March 28.
Organised by Rotary Club of Howick, the popular family fun day has a glorious start and finish at the Stockade Hill.
The organisers have assembled a number of magnificent spot prizes, donated by local businesses.
Participants will be in to win a large barbeque donated by Mitre 10 Mega, a bike from My Ride and an electric scooter donated by PBTech.
Additionally, there are loads of prizes from Dilmah Tea and a number of local business houses.
The courses will be the same as in previous years, and all road junctions will be manned by volunteers from Rotary, the Howick Volunteer Coast Guard and senior students from Howick College.
Cups will be presented to the first team of four runners, from both Primary and Intermediate schools, to cross the finish line.
Interestingly, the rivalry between local schools is quite noticeable on the day, and the parent support groups really get involved.
Water stations are set up around the three courses and on Stockade Hill. All participants are encouraged to keep hydrated.
Medals will be awarded to all school children finishing the run and these are most sought-after mementos of the day.
As always there will be a sausage sizzle, ice cream vendors and coffee trucks to help round out the day.
Rotarian Colin Monk, one of the organisers of Howick Rotary’s Fun Walk and Run says, “We would like to acknowledge the support of the Howick Local Board whose generosity assists with some of the running costs necessary to hold this community event.”
- The Howick Rotary’s Fun Walk & Run starts at 9am, Sunday, March 28 at Stockade Hill.
Registrations are open on http://howickfunwalkrun.co.nz. or by entering on the day.
