This Covid-19 lockdown seems to have lasted forever!
It has, however, been heartening to see our loyal locals supporting businesses as they’re able to reopen.
We must continue to shop locally where we can.
Follow up on your calls
The top requests for service to Auckland Council for our local area this month were for general tree maintenance, structural maintenance and repairs as well as loose litter.
These requests were predominately received during the days where the large storm passed through Auckland causing large amounts of damage to trees and their surrounding structures.
The arborist and maintenance team were quick to act on those that were more critical and posed health and safety threats.
Auckland Council contractors were on site in a timely manner to either secure the area or return the asset back to its original condition.

Vandalism
After vandalism to the slide at Mission Heights Reserve, a new slide has now been installed.
This park is regularly used by local residents of the area.
Sadly, there’s also been vandalism to some benches and tables at Eastern Beach.
This is a popular location and with the summer months getting closer, contractors have done a full replacement of the damaged assets by installing new ones like-for-like.
Improving our tree cover
Auckland’s Ngahere strategy is well under-way in the Howick Local Board area.
From the beginning of August up until the current lockdown, 59 trees had been planted to improve the canopy cover within the local board area.
Tree planting not only has aesthetic benefits, but mature trees are able to provide shade for local residents, food and home for many birds, as well as helping combat climate change.
Keeping safe on our roads
Hopefully our youngsters will return to school on October 18 after the school holidays.
Please drive slowly and carefully around our community, especially near schools.
Your vigilance and safe driving is important as children, and the elderly, readjust to being out and about again.
