Music lovers are encouraged to take a browse through hundreds of vinyl records that will be on display this weekend.
East FM, a local radio station, is hosting a vinyl sale on Saturday March 19 at the Howick Information Centre from 8.30am until 2.30pm. Michael Rowse, manager at East FM, told the Times that there will be 12 tables selling vinyls, CDs, DVDs and music memorabilia.
“It’s free entry,” Rowse says. “Come in and buy some music for your collection.”
One of the reasons for the event, Rowse says, was to attract more people into the local community.
“There are not a lot of music sales out this way. There’s quite a following with vinyl making a resurgence so we thought it would be a good way to get people into the village and it kind of ties into what we do. We’re music lovers.”
There will be eight sellers at the tables. Some of them have extensive collections from a variety of genres – jazz, rock n’ roll, country, right through to the classic rock and modern pop stuff.
One man, coming down from Kerikeri, is bringing around 300-500 vinyl albums to sell.
“There’s quite rare stuff in the sellers,” Rowse says. “Some of the stuff has been out of print for a long, long time.
“If you’re a music lover, there’s bound to be something there for you.”
This event, Rowse says, has been an idea for several years.
“We’ve got a good team at East FM. Once we decided we wanted to make it happen, we started to publicise it. We hit up the various vinyl-selling Facebook groups. That’s how we got a number of people from the public to bring their collections.”
Additionally, if anyone has a few records lying around and don’t want to toss them in the bin, East FM is taking donations. The records will be sold on their East FM table and the money raised will go towards the station.
Everybody is welcome.
The event will be cash-only and attendees will need their vaccine passports.
