- Katrina Bungard, Howick Local Board candidate, Pakuranga subdivision
Katrina Bungard is standing for re-election to the Pakuranga subdivision of the Howick Local Board.
As a previous Howick Local Board deputy chairperson, as well as a previous candidate of the National Party, Bungard brings a wealth of experience in community leadership.
She’s represented our local board for the past three local electoral terms and has been a strong advocate for curbing council costs and ensuring local residents’ views are heard and respected around the board table.
As a previous deputy chairperson Bungard strived to stop wasteful spending and bureaucracy while continuing to advocate for projects such as the Reeves Road Flyover.
She says: “It has been an absolute privilege to represent you and your family on our local board.
“This past term I have worked hard to progress crucial new transport initiatives for Pakuranga.
“I have also ensured community projects such as ‘Gardens and Fruit Trees in Schools’, as well as ‘Enviro-Schools’ are well facilitated.
“I have also advocated strongly for consideration to be given to our local facilities and playground upgrades, to ensure those with accessibility requirements and special needs are catered for in our new facilities.”
Bungard believes it is important for elected representatives to be proven hard workers for the community, and to serve across sectors.
As a child-cancer survivor and amputee, having lost her left leg to bone cancer at age 11, Bungard is passionate about ensuring local health and social service networks are appropriately facilitated.
As such, she currently serves the community in a range of voluntary community roles including being deputy chairperson of the Manukau East Council of Social Services (MECOSS).
She is also president of the Amputee Society and a director of the Amputee Federation NZ.
In addition to this, Bungard has also been an elected director on the Counties Manukau District Health Board for the past six years as well as spearheading the Healthy Howick Initiative on the local board.
Bungard says she will continue to be a strong advocate for community networking and ensuring the adequate provision of quality accessible facilities across the community.
