Top Chinese vocalists on song

Cui Muzi (Soprano) sang Arie aus dem Spiegel von Arcadien, song by the Austrian composer Arnord Schoenberg.

Nine top Chinese singers presented an extraordinary concert – the 2022 Solo Vocalists’ Concert – in Botany on November 25.

It featured a range of popular classics and contemporary songs in Chinese, Maori, Italian, French and German and met with enthusastic applause and praise.

The concert was organised by the Federation of the Chinese Association of New Zealand (FCANZ) and Pakuranga Chinese Association, sponsored by Steven Wong, director of the federation, and Southern Alps Group.

Fang Binlin (Tenor) sang O Sole Mio, by Di Capua.

Howick Local Board chair Damian Light, Local Board member Peter Young and representatives from the FCANZ attended the concert, with an audience of around 300 people who were completely immersed in the music.

“It was a wonderful event, showcasing incredible talent,” Light said.
“It was a great afternoon, and it was a privilege to thank the performers at the end for sharing their amazing voices with us. Thank you for organising it and inviting me to attend.”

Zhang Dun (Bass) sang Ol’ Man River, from the musical Show Boat.

“In the concert, nine top Chinese vocalists sang without amplification, accompanied by piano and accordion, for the audience to listen to the acoustic music, find the beauty of singers’ voice and live performance,” organisers said.

Some audience members agreed. “We really enjoyed it! We look forward to the next concert of its kind,” one said.
