Howick’s Harlequin Musical Theatre is preparing to celebrate its 65th Anniversary Cabaret showcasing talent from alumni of all ages.

Retired Harlequin alumni Julia Banks and Maureen Saunders reminisce fondly on their time with the musical theatre company, flipping through photographs dating back to the 1980s.

“There’s something about being on stage and looking at the audience, who are enjoying what you’re giving them.

“It’s just a lovely feeling,” says Saunders, a “lifetime member” of Harlequin.

Banks, who has both performed in and written many Harlequin shows, shares her excitement about returning to the stage.

“It’s lovely being back. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still sing.”

Banks and Saunders, along with their friend Jan Lucas, make up the musical group The Eno Sisters.

The trio met through performances at the Howick Little Theatre, then went on to perform at the Harlequin Theatre’s monthly Songs for You programme.

After decades of performing together, The Eno Sisters have been invited to feature in Harlequin’s 65th Anniversary Cabaret.

They’ll be singing in ensemble numbers as well as their own special set.
