Now there is a suggestion that rubbish will be collected only every second week, and yet Auckland Council started an expensive food waste collection. There are approximately 540,000 households in Auckland. Charge to each ratepayer to collect food waste is $77 per annum. Council intake is $42 million or $800,000 per week. I would be curious to know what it costs to pick up the three bins left out in my street. Somehow I don’t believe it makes financial sense.
