The collection, sorting and storage of thousands of books, puzzles, games, CD’s, DVD’s and LPs is well under way in preparation for this year’s Bookarama sale.
The volume is so large this time around that the Rotary Club of Howick is running out of storage space.
So once again, Placemakers Pakuranga has come to the party and arranged storage in the racks in its large warehouse.
“Placemakers have become a vital partner in Bookarama as they are a collection point, provide a room for sorting, palletize the sorted boxes, store them in their warehouse and then deliver them to the Somerville Intermediate School gymnasium prior to the beginning of the sale,” project convenor David Fels says.
“From the other collection points at Grasslands, Howick Village Optometrist, Mitre 10 Mega Botany, Café @ Danske Mobler, Farm Cove Intermediate, Lawn Heat and Leisure, to the sorting and storage at Ray White’s basement and support from Times Media, Howick Village Association and businesses in Howick, we really appreciate the wide community support we get to make Bookarama successful.
“It’s a great event in the community calendar and we can’t wait to get the 2024 sale underway.”
Bookarama starts on October 9 with the early-bird (entry fee $35) afternoon from 12pm-6pm.
The general sale, with free entry, follows from Thursday to Saturday from 9am-6pm.
It ends on Sunday at 3pm, after which the big clean-up happens so the gym is ready for action as school starts again on the Monday.
