Fitness enthusiasts with empathy for mental health issues are encouraged to run for hope in an upcoming event.
Two east Auckland businesses are joining forces to support the I Am Hope charity dedicated to helping people’s mental well-being.
Growing Younger Fitness Studios, in Highland Park and Howick, and Functional Health Chiropractic in Howick, are organising the I Am Hope 5K Fun Run/Walk.
It’s on Sunday, October 20, 8-11am.
Gavyn Berntsen, co-owner of Growing Younger Fitness Studios, says as two local businesses committed to the health and well-being of east Aucklanders, it’s appropriate they contribute to people’s enjoyment while supporting a very worthy cause.
“Join us for the Run for Hope Charity 5K Fun Run/Walk, an inspiring event aimed at bringing the community together to support I Am Hope.
“Whether you’re an avid runner or enjoy a leisurely walk, this event is perfect for all ages and fitness levels,” says Berntsen.
Participants will start at the Howick Softball Club on Meadowland Drive, following a five-kilometre route along Cascades Walkway to the finish line at Pakuranga United Rugby Club, at Bell Park, Lloyd Elsmore Park.
Berntsen says there’ll be refreshments and water stations along the course, with fun activities and entertainment at the finish line, and prizes for top finishers and best-dressed entrants.
Participants are advised to bring comfortable running/walking shoes, a water bottle, sunscreen and hat, and “positive energy and a smile”.
“Proceeds from the event will go towards I Am Hope, the charity dedicated to promoting positive mental health and well-being among young people,” says Berntsen.
“I Am Hope provides free counselling services and works to destigmatise mental health issues, empowering young people to seek the help they need.
“Come out, have fun, and make a difference in our community. We look forward to seeing you there.”
