Police are working to find gang member Hirini Te Runa, who they say has multiple warrants for his arrest.
“He’s wanted on assault and injures with intent to injure matters as well as another incident involving breaching detention conditions,” a police spokesperson says.
“Police believe Te Runa is somewhere in the wider Auckland, Waikato or Whakatane areas.”
News media reported Te Runa is a member of the Black Power gang.
He repeatedly assaulted his cellmate while imprisoned in the South Island in 2017.
Police say any sightings of Te Runa should be reported to 111 immediately.
“If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact police on 105, quoting file number 240614/9546.
“Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
