The leader of a notorious gang is on the run from police.
Counties Manukau Police want to hear from anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Mathew Karetu.
The 38-year-old has a warrant to arrest and is wanted by police.
He’s thought to be in the Counties Manukau or Eastern Districts and may be travelling between the two districts, police say.
Karetu is reported to be the national president of the Mongrel Mob Barbarians gang.
He’s awaiting sentencing for offences involving the drug methamphetamine, which is also known as “P”, and unlawful possession of a pistol.
People with information on where he is, or may be, are urged to phone police on 111 immediately and quote the file number 241216/5820.
Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Karetu should not be approached, police say.
