Shoppers at an east Auckland supermarket have been forced out of the store and into the car park this afternoon, March 7, due to an alarm going off.
A photo sent to the Times of the scene at the new Pak’n’Save Highland Park shows dozens of shoppers in the car park.
A fire truck was in attendance just after 2pm.
Fire crews from the Howick and Mount Wellington fire stations responded to the incident.
A shopper present says there was no sign of smoke but a large number of trolleys containing groceries had to be left inside the supermarket as people were ushered outside.
The brand new $100 million supermarket opened its doors to customers on February 25 and has already seen such large customer demand that it’s had to bring in 44 extra shopping trolleys.
More to come.
