Following the highly successful record fair at Howick Village in early March, record lovers might like to consider heading across Auckland for a sister event in Mt Albert.

Recognised as the biggest and brightest record fair in Auckland, the next event on May 17 coincides with New Zealand Music Month.

The Mt Albert Record Fair is held at the spacious Mt Albert War Memorial Hall and entry is free.

Two of the regular vinyl vendors at the East FM Vinyl Records and Music Memorabilia Fair run the Mt Albert event and say “an incredible selection of vinyl records and other music products and memorabilia” will be on offer.

The Mt Albert fair kicks off bright and early, with doors open from 8.30am to 3pm.

“You should allow plenty of time to dig through the vast assortment of music,” say the organisers.

“If you’re a fan of pop, rock, jazz, soul, reggae, blues, hip-hop, R&B, electronic, punk or metal music, you won’t be disappointed.

“And of course, May is NZ Music Month, so what a great excuse to pick up some ‘sweet as’ Kiwi titles on vinyl.

“Friendly and knowledgeable vinyl record traders are guaranteed, and while you browse, groove to the cool sounds from some of Auckland’s best vinyl DJs.

“Visitors will also find a ready supply of food and coffee to sustain all that crate digging.”

Leading Auckland hi-fi supplier AV World is an exhibitor and sponsor of the event.

“The fun is amped up with giveaways throughout the day, and a major prize draw of an incredible Audio Technica turntable to one lucky record lover,” say the organisers.

Buyers are advised there is no EFTPOS facility at the Mt Albert venue, though most traders will accept bank transfers, but it’s suggested that using cash is the sure way to make purchases.

Items on offer will be vinyl records – new and second-hand, CDs, tape cassettes, music memorabilia, and pop culture books, posters and clothing.
