POSITION REPORTS TO: Centre Manager, HPNC

POSITION SUMMARY
Purpose:
To manage the database of umpires affiliated to HPNC and organise the weekly allocation of umpires to allocated grades for the winter netball season. Work with the HPNC Umpires subcommittee to coordinate opportunities to develop umpires at HPNC, and to increase the number, quality and engagement of umpires across all levels. To also work with the HPNC Umpires Sub Committee to deliver umpire coach development programs at HPNC, clubs and schools.
Follow the Constitution and By-Laws of HPNC and HPNUA and when in doubt seek clarification from the President of HPNC Executive Committee or the President of HPNUA.
This is role is primarily based at Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre. However, the successful applicant may need to travel to schools and/or other netball centres within the Auckland region
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Umpire Sub Committee Support
• Provide coordination and administrative support to the Umpires’ Sub Committee
o to produce and implement a suitable Umpire Development Plan and Umpire Coach /
Assessor Development Plan
o by organising umpire development/training opportunities and creating an agreed
diary of events.
o to increase the number, quality, and engagement of umpires at all levels in the game
at HPNC.
o by maintaining a database including personal information, assessments and
qualifications of all umpires and umpire coach/assessors at HPNC. This database will
record their achievements and training requirements.
o to achieve a high and positive profile for HPNC with all activities.
• Liaise with umpires and umpire coach/assessors regarding development opportunities and
organise coaching and assessments sessions for each Saturday during the Winter Netball
Season.
• Contribute to the umpire/ umpire coach / assessor training by promoting the training
opportunities across the netball and school communities.
• Managing the Umpire email inbox and responding to queries in a timely manner. The inbox must be covered Wednesday to Friday especially during the Winter competition period.
Weekly Allocations (during Winter Season Schedule)
• Once the weekly draw is available allocate appropriately qualified umpires to games for the agreed grades e.g. Premier and College 1 grades.
• Liaise with each of the umpires and confirm their availability and attendance each Saturday.
• Maintain a list of games umpired for each umpire and organise payment at the end of the
grading and competitions rounds.
• Organise/allocate umpires for both the local and national representative tournaments in
conjunction with Umpire Coach Assessors.
Fitness Testing
• Organise fitness testing opportunities for all Zone and NZ umpires as required.
Communication & Reporting
• Ensure digital media relating to umpires is current and regularly updated.
• Work with the Umpires’ Sub Committee to provide feedback to Northern Zone on umpire
and umpire coach development programmes, as and when required.
• Provide a monthly report to Netball Northern on qualifications and assessment outcomes.
This report is to be included in a monthly report to the HPNC Executive Committee.
• Develop and maintain effective communication channels with the netball community.
Undertake any other tasks as requested by the Centre Manager and the Umpires’ Sub Committee to support the delivery of quality netball experiences.

Essential
• Highly organised and able to prioritise workloads.
• Ability to build effective working relationships quickly across a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Good understanding of community netball and working with volunteers.
• Able to use Microsoft Office/Social Media Platforms.
Desirable
• Relevant umpire qualification and knowledge.
• Experience in developing and/or training umpires across all levels of the game which
requires strong facilitation skills and confidence.
