Never has the saying ‘the show must go on’ resonated more than for the Elim Christian College production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr theatre musical adapted from the 1992 Walt Disney Animation Studios film Aladdin.

After being forced to reschedule due to Auckland’s second lockdown just days before the opening night, it seemed that the school might never have the chance to make it to the stage, says production director Graeme Foster.

“Despite all of the setbacks 2020 has thrown at us, Elim Christian College students showed their true character in persevering all the way through to closing night.”

The Hawkin’s Theatre was packed for a final performance as the audience took a magical ride through the streets of the fabled city of Agrabah through dazzling dances, set design and musical numbers.

“The responses from attendees have been phenomenal – ‘the best Elim show yet’. ‘The [students] were fantastic. So hilarious.’ We could not have made it such a memorable night without the staff and the students,” he says.
