There are opportunities for skilled young musicians to play and accompany upcoming Moana Auckland events, says music charity Play It Strange.
Moana Auckland, described as New Zealand’s Ocean Festival and a first of its kind in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, is staged by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited on behalf of the Auckland Council and its residents and ratepayers.
The festival aims to “celebrate the region’s love affair of the ocean – from waka to super yachts – through events and activities both on and off the water, from January 27 to March 9”.
Play It Strange, the music charity that predominantly supports, works with and encourages secondary school students with their songwriting, performance and self-expression, says it has “an exciting opportunity” for individuals or bands to perform at Moana Auckland.
“We’re on the lookout for talented musicians to enhance the atmosphere across Auckland City’s waterfront by hosting pop-up music sessions alongside the on and off water events, which is where you come in,” says Play It Strange.
“Performances will be a 45-minute set in an outdoor location, separate from the events, but designed to enhance the visitor experience by creating a lively atmosphere on their journey through the waterfront, with an opportunity to stop and enjoy the music.
“The pop-up music is designed to be street-style (think busking) performance so there will be no stage.”
Play It Strange says the performance opportunities are:
- Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta, January 27.
- New Zealand Millennium Cup, February 1-4.
- Z Manu World Champs, February 15 to March 1.
- Sustainability Programme, February 22-23.
- PIC Harbour Classic, February 28 to March 1.
- Six60: The Grassroots Tour City Edition, March 1.
- Auckland Boat Show, March 6-9.
Play It Strange says: “If you’re a Play It Strange alumni and are keen to perform, email a link to your Spotify or previous performances to info@playitstrange.org.nz and we will submit you to perform.”
