Thousands of people enjoyed the stunning summer weather at two community events on a recent Saturday in east Auckland.

The Howick Family Fun Day at Howick Doman, organised by local real estate agent Lawrence Liew of Bayleys Howick, featured a popular bouncy castle, face painting, Mr. Whippy Ice Cream, a sausage sizzle, potato sack races for adults and children, live music and dance performances, exciting giveaways and more.

The sausage sizzle was by gold coin donation with proceeds going to the Howick Children’s Charitable Trust, which stages the popular annual Howick Santa Parade.

The event raised more than $1000 for the trust.

“The trust plays a huge role in our community, organising the beloved Howick Santa Parade, which brings together around 45,000 people from across east Auckland,” Liew says.

“It’s truly the largest and most inclusive event of the year, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this donation possible.”

The second big event the same day was the Cherry Blossom Festival staged at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple in Flat Bush.

The temple’s Nick Yoong says more than 3000 people turned out to the festival “celebrating with a variety of engaging activities and joyful experiences for the community”.

“The event featured special highlights such as a Baby Blessing ceremony, live demonstrations by talented artists, an insightful Artists Forum, and a bustling market with numerous local stalls showcasing regional crafts and goods.

“Additionally, a parade of antique cars captivated festivalgoers, adding a touch of vintage charm to the celebration.

“Local residents and visitors were warmly invited to join in the spirit of joy and collective effort, fostering a harmonious and beautiful community together.”
