The Howick Children’s and Youth Theatre (HCYT) has three shows coming up – and they’re excited after prolonged lockdowns shelved shows last year.
“After Covid prevented us from performing in 2020, we are delighted to be able to tread the boards again,” says HCYT principal Fiona Bailey.
Youth Theatre students are performing Blue Stockings which is a funny, but hard-hitting drama set in 1896, in Cambridge, England. It delves into women’s educational rights and their right to obtain degrees.
It is suitable for children 12 years and older – right the way up to grandparents. This is an emotional and passionate show. It performs on Thursday May 6 and Friday May 7 at 7.30pm and on Sunday 9th May at 4.30pm. Tickets are $10 per head.
For families HCYT has Rumpelstiltskin, a full-length play based on the traditional story known to all. This is a fun show suitable for children 5 years and older.
It performs on Thursday May 6 & Friday May 7 at 5pm, on Saturday May 8 at 1.30pm and 4pm and on Sunday May 9 at 1.30pm. Tickets are $8 per head.
For younger viewers there is Gingerbread House in the Forest. This is approximately an hour long and is suitable for children 3-4 years and older. It performs on Saturday May 8 and Sunday May 9 at 10am and 11.30am. Tickets are $6 per head.
“All shows have been rehearsing since February and the casts is ready to bring their performances to life for the local community,” says Bailey.
“Please come along and support these hard-working students. There is something here for everyone.”
