On Saturday, March 8, Barry Curtis Park was transformed into a colourful spectacle by Social Media Magic as thousands gathered to celebrate NZ Holi.
NZI Community Trust in association with Humm FM and Kashish Foods hosted the event in Flat Bush with huge success this year.
Holi is a popular and significant Indian festival, also known as “the Festival of Colours”, and includes throwing powder paint and coloured water, along with dancing and singing.
The colour powder is also known as “Gulal” in Hindi.
There was a variety of bright colours like optimistic orange, young yellow, goblin green, berry blue, and hot pink.
People with diverse backgrounds took part in the festival, which was bigger and better than last year.
The event showcased an incredible line-up of traditional Indian cuisine and global flavours from tangy chaat to rich curries and desserts, including the most popular drink – mango lassi.
It brought the magic of colours from India to Auckland!
There was music, food, a DJ, dhol (drum master), water and heaps of colours.
People from all over Auckland came together to celebrate Holi.
From kids to grandparents, everyone had a great time and enjoyed the lovely vibe.

There was a huge stage set up for live performances and the crowd was cheering and dancing to the energising music.
There were heaps of food trucks selling a variety of food delicacies including ice cream, mango lassi, samosas and other mouth-watering snacks.
There were bouncy castles, flying chair rides and bungy jumping for kids.
People from diverse backgrounds took part in this Festival of Colours.
It was an amazing ambience. Families and friends enjoyed teasing, laughing and throwing powder colours at each other.
All one could hear was loud music, which you couldn’t stop dancing to.
Some families were enjoying the sunshine with a picnic whilst little kids played.
A variety of colours was splattered on everyone and no two people had the same colour on them.
Some people left the event with hot-pink hair or baby-blue shorts.
NZI Community Trust, Humm 104.2 FM, Kashish Foods and Social Media Magic had a superb line-up of sponsors including Gold Sponsor, Bank of India; Silver Sponsor, CNZ; and media partners Indian Weekender, Radio Spice, Daily Khabar.
It was supported by Forum Films and the kids play area was brought to life by Brilliant Minds Early Childhood Centre.
