East Auckland pupils have thrown themselves into a colourful celebration of their school’s vibrant diversity.
Farm Cove Intermediate School’s recent Cultural Festival featured food trucks and a barbecue as well as a wide range of performances including kapa haka, Pasifika Au Siva, Chinese ribbon and fan dances, Indian dance, ukulele, a rock band and choir.
“It went incredibly well and it was lovely to see our students shine on stage, showcasing their talents and mahi to the community,” teacher Teresa Lu says.
“Farm Cove Intermediate is fortunate to have a richly diverse community.
“Throughout the year, the students showcased their talents at community events, including performances with neighbouring schools, rest homes, and early childhood centres.
“Sharing their highly-polished performances with their friends and whānau was a highlight for many of the students. The food trucks and barbecue added to the festival atmosphere.”
Farm Cove Intermediate School principal Tamara Jones adds: “We know strong connections with whānau, community, and culture are foundational for student success.”
