Ram-raiders are not being given a free ride, recent statistics suggest.

Police figures reveal that, while aggravated robberies remain a threat, the number of ram-raids impacting businesses has dropped from a high experienced in August, 2022.

“Just a year ago, ram-raids were a huge concern to the retail community – we’re happy to see that these have significantly reduced,” Superintendent Paul Basham says.

“Unfortunately, we’ve seen an increase in aggravated robberies, though not to the same extent we saw with ram-raids.”

East Auckland businesses have not been spared, as Pakuranga-based Parmjeet Parmar (ACT list MP) recently expressed to the Times.

Aggravated robberies often occur at petrol stations, jewellers and malls, however businesses of almost any nature could be targeted.

“This threat of harm creates fear,” Basham adds.

“This is not acceptable for any person who is simply going to work to do their job.”

Although it appears police are on the case (figures also show an increase in foot patrols), business people are being asked to take practical steps to help protect their from crime.
