The most futuristic looking vehicle made by the company run by the world’s richest man is set to go on public display in east Auckland.

People have the chance to schedule a viewing of the Tesla Cybertruck at Botany Town Centre between 9am and 6pm from March 24-30.

Tesla is led by outspoken and controversial businessman Elon Musk, who’s been given a senior role in the Trump Administration in the United States.

Tesla says its all-wheel-drive electric Cybertruck has a top speed of 209km/h and can accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in just 2.7 seconds.

It has an estimated range of 515km on a full battery and can tow a weight of almost 5000kg.

The company says the vehicle’s stainless steel “exoskeleton” helps to reduce dents, damage and long-term corrosion, making repairs simple and quick, while its “shatter-resistant” “armour glass” can “resist the impact of a baseball at 112km/h or class 4 hail”.

Its interior features a large 18.5-inch infinity touchscreen in the front and a 9.4-inch touchscreen in the rear.

But while Cybertrucks look great, they have their flaws, as all vehicles do.

News media reported on March 21 that Tesla is recalling more than 40,000 Cybertrucks due to a defect that can lead to an exterior panel on the vehicle to detach, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall notice affects nearly all Cybertrucks delivered in the US.

Additional recent bad news for Tesla is the recent spate of arson attacks on its vehicles, dealerships and charging stations in certain parts of the US.
