Big turnout for 175th anniversary luncheon

Two hundred and fifty guests took their seats at the Howick 175th Anniversary luncheon on Saturday.

The line-up at the luncheon at the Howick Pakuranga Community Sports Centre in Lloyd Elsmore Park enjoyed the sunshine before making their way in to the Bayleys-sponsored event.

Among the many guests were descendants of the first settlers, local business people, service club members and politicians.

MC was Howickian Kate Rodger [TV entertainment editor and film reviewer] and there were speeches by Howick 175 Committee chair Rev Dr Richard Waugh, Howick Historian Alan La Roche, former Howick Borough mayor Morrin Cooper and Youth of Howick representative Maya McNeill. Cooper also presented a video message from Lord Howick in Northumberland.

Matt Greenwood also gave a talk on the special blend anniversary tea while Harlequin Theatre added special fun with some performances from their forthcoming Mama Mia production.
