Blues call on golfers for pro-am

One-test All Black and Blues first five-eighths Harry Plummer, in action at Blues pre-season training recently, is calling on golf-playing rugby people to join the field at the annual pro-am Barfoot and Thompson Blues Alumni Golf Day on March 10. Photo supplied

He may not be accustomed to playing on the wing, but Blues’ fly-half Harry Plummer is keen to land a birdie or two and he’s inviting local rugby fans to join him on the fairway at the Akarana Golf Course.

During the annual pro-am Barfoot and Thompson Blues Alumni Golf Day on March 10, Harry will tee off with a “hole” lot of fun par for the course.

“The Alumni Golf Day is always one to look forward to,” Plummer confirmed to the Times.

“It’s cool to get to know some of our sponsors and partners on a deeper level as well as get the competitive juices flowing with a round of golf.

“We have a decent number of golfers in our playing group at the moment so there’s bragging rights on the line as well.”

While his Blues rugby squad may call on a Plummer to help them get out of the “rough”, another could well benefit from a hook shot or two by former All Blacks hooker and Ardmore local Keven Mealamu.

All teams will bid for the rub of the green assisted by a Blues legend as well as a current player, coach or member of management.

Unfortunately, this is no spectator sport and places on the roster are limited.
