Bogged down with tide on way in

An over-adventurous motorist who drove their vehicle onto the soft and sticky cockle beds and mudflats of Cockle Bay has ended up getting stuck.

The Times was notified of the incident in the early hours of Thursday morning by a local Cockle Bay resident.

The resident sent the Times the photo at 2.30am and said police were in attendance and investigating.

In the photo, two police officers and two people, who could be the driver and passenger of the vehicle, can be seen standing next to the bogged down blue utility truck.

The tide was out, and full tide was due in at around 8am this morning.

The resident witnessed what they describe as the driver performing “burnouts and racing around Cockle Bay Beach”.

“Then they took to racing around out on the mud and cockle beds making a hell of a mess to finally get stuck and the tide is going to come in and take it about 8am,” the resident said.

When the Times visited the Cockle Bay Beach scene at high-tide time this morning, there was no sign of the blue ute.

Police say vehicle towing companies attended the scene before daylight, but didn’t want to risk taking their trucks onto the muddy beach.

It’s understood a local resident has assisted removing the bogged-down ute using a tractor before high tide submerged it.
