BREAKING – Person injured in east Auckland apartment fire

Emergency services are responding to a fire in an apartment building in east Auckland this afternoon, April 12.

Police Inspector Jason Homan says the fire is in a building in Grassways Avenue, Pakuranga, and was reported at about 12.45pm.

“One person reported to be in a critical condition has been transported to Middlemore Hospital.

“There are cordons in place, please avoid the area while emergency services attend.”

The fire was reported to Fire and Emergency NZ at about 12.40pm.

Firefighters from the Howick, Ellerslie, Otara, Mount Wellington, Auckland City, and Otahuhu stations are believed to be responding to the incident.

A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency NZ says multiple calls were received about the fire and one person was rescued from the building.

A spokesperson for Hato Hone St John says: “Hato Hone St John was notified of a fired incident in Pakuranga at 12.43pm and responded with one ambulance, two rapid response units and one manager to the scene.

“Our crews assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition.”
