Chance for burns survivors to share

Survivors of burns have an opportunity to share their personal stories at an upcoming empathetic forum.

Survivor Sunday is provided quarterly through the year by the Burn Support Charitable Trust.

It’s a chance for burn survivors, their families and peer support people to be in a “safe haven” to talk with those similarly affected.

“They can share their individual journey and story, learning tools and strategies to enhance everyday lives,” says the trust.

The charity is “extremely pleased and honoured” to have guest speaker Martha Druery, from Australia, attending Survivor Sunday, on October 27.

“Martha has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of burns and trauma.”

The newly created Alan and Delwyn Breslau Scholarship Fund, named after a well-known east Auckland couple, has funded Druery’s trip to New Zealand, where she’ll also be guest speaker at the ANZBA conference in Auckland.

The trust says it has availability for 50 people to attend and they will be provided with a buffet lunch, while raffles and auction items will be on offer.

The event costs are covered by the charity, a non-profit organisation with no government funding.

Survivor Sunday is at Waipuna Lodge, Mt Wellington, Auckland. To register, email michele@burns.org.nz by October 14 for catering purposes.
