Long-time RSA official and Coastguard skipper Mike Cole has formally received his Queen’s Service Medal from Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro.
Cole says the investiture ceremony at Government House in Auckland is one his family will never forget. He was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday and Platinum Jubilee Honours in June.
“As I was only allowed five guests, my wife Charmaine, daughter Rochelle, son David and my sister Sue, who has flown out from the UK, came with me,” he said.
“Charmaine had spent many hours working on her dress for the occasion and she looked beautiful in a fully red outfit.
“We had delicious bubbly and the high tea was delightful. The investiture was held in the Government House pavilion which was an excellent setting with the manicured grounds providing a wonderful backdrop.”
