Police will be out in force this Matariki weekend.

While many of us may be gazing up at the Matariki stars, police are keeping a keen eye out on our roads.

“Police are utilising additional resources – including redeploying staff, bringing in specialist support units, and boosting our investigations teams – to send a clear message,” Sandra Venables from NZ Police says.

“We will be working hard around the country to curb antisocial road user activity.”

Police will be especially focused on the worst examples of dangerous driving, including during gatherings of ‘car enthusiasts’, across the country during the long weekend.

“We know our communities have had enough of this reckless and dangerous behaviour.

“Our staff will be adopting a zero tolerance approach to any unlawful activity. Expect infringements, impoundment, and/or prosecution.”

People witnessing such dangerous activity should call 111, if it is still in process, or by reporting as much information as possible through on 105.

Reports can also be made anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
