An east Auckland primary school has marked the end of its year with a special evening of cultural performances.
Baverstock Oaks School in Flat Bush recently staged its annual Fia Fia Night, with it described by principal Genee Crowley as an event with plenty of “cultural vibrance”.
“Fia Fia Night is a celebration of Māori and Pasifika cultures, as well as the school’s Māori and Pasifika prize-giving event.
“The evening was filled with beautiful performances from the senior and junior kapa haka groups, the senior Pasifika group, and the Year 4 cultural group, all led by the incredible Whaea Lisa,” says Crowley.
“The event was a true reflection of energy, fun, and cultural appreciation, bringing the school community together in a spirit of aroha (love), manaakitanga (hospitality), and kotahitanga (unity).
“The night ended on a high note with a lively and fun dance performance by the Baverstock Oaks School teachers, leaving everyone with big smiles and a sense of family and pride in their shared heritage.
“It was a memorable evening that showcased the heart and soul of the Baverstock Oaks School community,” says Crowley.
