Draft Howick Local Board Plan out for consultation

We’re excited to present our draft Local Board Plan for feedback.

We’ve spent the first half of this year out talking to locals about what’s important to them.

We’ve taken your feedback, together with strategic context and expert advice, to produce a three-year strategic plan that is both aspirational and practical.

You’ll recognise some initiatives from our previous plans as we continue to build on their success.

There are also initiatives that respond to new and emerging challenges and opportunities.

Feedback closes at 4pm, Monday, August 14, so make sure you have your say:

Celebrating our amazing volunteers

We’re fortunate to have amazing locals who volunteer their time to help their community.

At the end of June we hosted a celebration to acknowledge more than 80 local volunteers who were nominated by their community.

They represented a diverse range of groups and organisations and we’re incredibly thankful for all the amazing work they do.

Thank you to everyone who volunteers in our community!

Keeping Howick Kauri Kids open

As part of the Auckland Council’s annual budget decisions, the Governing Body (Councillors and Mayor) voted to close the Kauri Kids early childhood education centres, unless Local Boards covered the costs.

The Howick Local Board voted to fund our local Kauri Kids at the Howick Leisure Centre until June 2024, acknowledging that this is a very popular centre that provides more than the relatively small cost to keep it open.

This decision provides certainty for both staff and whānau, while providing us time to explore options.

We’ve asked staff to identify alternative providers to deliver a similar service, utilising a model which aligns with the Kauri Kids values.
