News media have named the victim of a fatal shooting in Pakuranga Heights yesterday morning, August 19, as Saia Kokohu Vi.
The Tongan grandfather was shot while driving a Post Haste courier van in Marvon Downs Avenue. Residents reported hearing gunshots just before 7am.
Police and St John Ambulance paramedics responded to the incident.
Saia Kokohu Vi was found injured inside his courier van at the intersection of Marvon Downs Avenue and Pixie Place.
He was attended by medical services but died at the scene. A homicide investigation was launched yesterday afternoon.
His family and friends have posted tributes to him on social media.
“RIP Dad” one person said, while another wrote “I love you so much brother Saia RIP”.
Shortly after the fatal shooting, Pakuranga MP Simeon Brown said he was “horrified by the news of a fatal shooting in Pakuranga Heights”.
“This will be incredibly disturbing for the community and neighbours.
“Police will have a significant presence as they investigate to find out what happened and who is responsible.

Saia Kokohu Vi is reported to have lived with his wife, daughter and two grandchildren.
Post Haste general manager Ben Pryor said in a statement provided to the Times the company is “devastated” to hear of the death of one of its courier contractors yesterday morning.
“Our sincere condolences are with his family and friends.
“While we know the victim, as this is an active investigation, police are yet to release official information, including his name.
“We are offering counselling support to our team and appreciate their support of each other at this sad time.
“With respect to his family, we will not be commenting further.”
Police have been contacted today for an update on the homicide investigation.
