Fire and Emergency NZ crews from many east and south Auckland fire stations attended a destructive blaze at an East Tamaki Heights residential property this afternoon.
At 2.50pm on Friday, Fire and Emergency NZ says it received “multiple calls” from witnesses and members of the public about the fire at a “two-storey dwelling” on Mangerton Lane off Brooke Ridge Rise, below the Point View Drive ridgeline.
Fire and Emergency NZ told the Times the fire was “well-involved” at the property when crews from its stations of Otara, Howick, Papatoetoe, Mt Wellington, Papakura, Manurewa and Otahuhu attended the incident.
St John Ambulance paramedics attended and one person was treated for minor smoke inhalation but did not require further medical treatment.
Denis Gianoutsos, a East Tamaki Heights resident, witnessed from distance the fire sweep across the property.
He told the Times the large number of Fire and Emergency crews would have been required because of the strong gusty south-westerly wind that was fanning the blaze quickly through the house.
