A former east Auckland school pupil has died in a plane crash in Australia.

Adam Snell attended Saint Kentigern College in Pakuranga.

An online death notice states the much loved son of John and Alison Snell and brother of Lauren and Chelsea was “tragically killed in an air accident at Mulgathing Station, South Australia,” on June 27.

The 22-year-old was the sole occupant of the Cessna aircraft he was piloting when it crashed.

Snell learned to fly at the Massey University School of Aviation.

The school posted a tribute to him on social media on June 29 that states: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our Massey University School of Aviation graduate, Adam Snell, in an unfortunate aircraft accident in Australia.

“Adam was a bright and dedicated pilot, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

According to Snell’s Facebook page he left Saint Kentigern College in 2019.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the crash that claimed his life.

A remembrance service will be held for Snell at 2pm on July 27 in Kohimarama.
