Pakuranga resident Guy Clapshaw’s Percival Gull monoplane won the prestigious Best Vintage Cup for its flying display in the Omaka Classic Fighter Meet held in Blenheim over the Easter weekend.
Mr Clapshaw’s aircraft was built in 1939 and served in the Royal Air Force as a communications aircraft during World War II. After the war it had several private owners before being flown to Australia in 1952. Mr Clapshaw found it at the back of a hangar in Queensland and brought it to New Zealand 17 years ago.
