Injured motorcyclist undergoes surgery

A motorcyclist injured in a crash in east Auckland has been transported to hospital and is undergoing surgery.

Police earlier said a crash between a vehicle and a person riding a motorcycle had blocked a main road in Pakuranga this morning, December 28.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Pakuranga Road and Stanniland Street shortly after 8.50am.

“The motorcyclist is said to have critical injuries,” a police spokesperson said.

“The Serious Crash Unit is attending, and motorists are asked to avoid using Pakuranga Road if possible. There are diversions in place.”

A spokesperson for Hato Jone St John Ambulance said: “Hato Hone St John was notified of this incident on 8.51am this morning on Pakuranga Road.

“We responded with one ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and an operations manager.”

The injured motorcyclist has since been transported to Auckland City Hospital.

In an update issued at 1.46pm, a police spokesperson said: “Pakuranga Road is expected to reopen shortly following the crash this morning between a car and a motorcyclist.

“The motorcyclist remains in hospital in critical condition undergoing surgery.

“The circumstances of the crash will be investigated.”
