The Howick Hornets Rugby League Football Club had a successful weekend at home with both of the club’s premier sides recording spectacular wins.
The club’s premier men impressed in their first round of the 2023 Fox Memorial Premiership, shooting to the top of the table after a 46-4 win over the Mangere East Hawks.
In a game dominated from start to finish by the Hornets, Lonnie Papani and Rahs Tuivai-Lopa were the standouts, each scoring two tries.
The men will look to make it two from two this weekend when they make the journey to Fowlds Park to take on the Mt Albert Lions who are coming off a heavy 32-6 loss.
Women’s Premiership
The Howick Hornets premier women (‘Nets) played host to Taniwharau in a game that, over the past two seasons, always proved to be a fantastic match-up.
It was the ‘Nets day as they were flawless from the first to final whistle, finishing the game 50-0.
In their 50-point domination, Saphire Abraham and Zayde Sarah-Baldwin both scored two-tries a piece.
The women have well and truly taken charge of their competition after their first two games, winning both in convincing fashion.
In the game of the round this week, the ‘Nets will face the Otahuhu Leopards at North Harbour Stadium on Wednesday at 6pm.
The mid-week game will be streamed live on Sky Sport and the Auckland Rugby League YouTube channel.
