The Malaysia men’s football national team is using South Auckland Rangers’ Rongomai Park as their training base ahead of their friendly international against New Zealand.
The All Whites play Malaysia at North Harbour Stadium, Albany, on Monday, 14 October.
The visiting Malaysian squad is holding an open public training session tomorrow, Saturday, October 12, from 10.30am to12.30pm, at Rongomai Park, Te Irirangi Drive, Flat Bush.
South Auckland Rangers Football Club is working closely with the Auckland Malaysian community which is indicating around 300 people will be in attendance to support their national side.
South Auckland Rangers is a club rich in history, with more than 540 members and growing each year.
The club president, Shiu Singh, says it’s supporting local colleges, Ormiston, Sancta Maria and Tangaroa in football, and working with Otara-Papatotetoe Local Board and the Auckland Council on further developments of the sports grounds at Ronogmai Park.
“We encourage everyone to come to the planned open training and support the Malaysian team and be part of what will be a very special occasion.
“We welcome other teams from Auckland, local businesses and anyone keen to be involved in the future of what’s happening at the club to join us,” Singh says.
“This is a first for South Auckland Rangers and we’re truly honoured to support New Zealand Football on this occasion.
“We’re already in talks to host future footballing events and I can’t thank my board, coaches and volunteers enough.
“It’s really an exciting time for the club and the community as a whole.”
Singh says Rangers acknowledges the support of the council and the local board, CLM, Foundation North and local grant providers and their main sponsors Wellbeing Solutions and Barfoot and Thompson Flat Bush.
Singh says the club thanks New Zealand Football for its commitment to the game in South Auckland.
