A man has been arrested following a brazen handbag snatch on Michael Jones Drive at Botany Junction yesterday afternoon.
Senior sergeant Mike Schmidt confirmed to the Times that a woman was left badly shaken after her handbag was stolen at around 2pm.
Times photographer Wayne Martin, who was in the area soon after, claims the robbery is the second of its kind in three weeks. Police were unable to verify this yesterday afternoon.
“Thanks to caring witnesses and social media, a description of the perpetrator and his vehicle were provided to Police who now have a suspect in custody for today’s (Wednesday’s) incident,” Martin said.
Snr sgt Schmidt said police turned up at an address but were unable to find the handbag. However they did arrest a male “on an unrelated matter”.
“We’re following positive leads and our guys will be going back (to the victim’s home) tomorrow (Thursday) and following up with her.”
Police would be deploying more staff “at peak times”, he said.
“Again, if you see anyone suspicious (at any time), ring the police on 111.”
