There was car-mageddon on the streets of east Auckland after a storm left the surface of a road flooded and a truck got stuck on a traffic island.
Motorists trying to make their way to or through Pakuranga suffered major congestion on the roads heading toward Pakuranga Plaza, Panmure, and the South Eastern Arterial following heavy rain overnight.
Gridlock was reported to have occurred on and around roads including Glenmore Road, Ti Rakau Drive, and Gossamer Drive, among others.
Numerous people took to community Facebook pages to vent their frustration and warn others to avoid the area if possible.
One person said a truck was stuck and blocking two lanes heading toward Panmure while another motorist was stuck in traffic outside Saint Kentigern College on Pakuranga Road at 5.50am.
It took another driver almost an hour to drive from Highland Park to Pakuranga Plaza, having left home at 8.10am.
One upset motorist reported it having taken more than an hour to drive 5km to Panmure.
