The chief executive of New Zealand medicines agency Pharmac for the past seven years, Sarah Fitt, has resigned.
The agency’s board announced today, February 28, that Fitt will leave the role on May 30.
“The board and Pharmac are appreciative of all of Sarah’s work over her time as chief executive and her previous five years in senior executive roles in the organisation.
“Sarah has provided valuable leadership across significant projects and strategic initiatives.
“We thank her for her work and commitment over her 12 years with us.
“Sarah is looking forward to future endeavours and leaves with the thanks and best wishes of the board.
“Sarah’s last day will be May 30 with her taking a period of leave in April and May.
“Pharmac will commence its recruitment for a new chief executive shortly.”
Associate Health Minister David Seymour acknowledges Fitt’s resignation and thanks her for her service.
“I would like to thank Sarah for her work and commitment to improving medicines access over the past 12 years at Pharmac, seven spent as chief executive,” he says.
“Since becoming Minister responsible for Pharmac I have been impressed by Sarah’s commitment to focusing Pharmac on its core role of expanding opportunities and access for patients.
“I acknowledge Sarah’s decision to step down from the role and thank her for her work in providing modern healthcare for New Zealanders.
“I wish her all the very best for the future.”
Fitt’s departure follows the recent resignation of Health New Zealand chief executive Fepulea’i Margie Apa.
Apa was the first to hold the position of chief executive at Health New Zealand and announced earlier this month that she was stepping down.
She was previously chief executive of the Counties Manukau District Health Board.
Dr Dale Bramley is serving as acting chief executive of Health New Zealand while a formal recruitment process is underway to find Apa’s replacement.
