Police stop driver on stolen forklift

The allegedly stolen forklift comes to a halt in Cook Street, Howick.

It may have been one of the slowest getaway attempts in history.

Police responded to an incident in east Auckland today, December 1, that involved a person allegedly stealing a forklift from a business and driving away on it.

Police caught up with the suspect on Cook Street in Howick.

A photo provided to the Times of the scene shows two police cars pulled over on Cook Street with the driverless forklift between them.

It’s understood the forklift may have been taken from a nearby bakery.
