Two people dead, four injured, in motorway crashes

East Auckland commuters using the city’s motorways this morning, February 7, may face delays due to multiple crashes.

Police say the two fatal incidents have impacted the South Western and Southern Motorway networks.

Emergency services attended an incident on the South Western Motorway, near Mount Roskill, which was reported at around 1am.

“A person had entered the motorway on foot and had been struck by a vehicle.

“The person died at the scene. No other injuries are reported.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.”

Emergency services have also attended a crash involving a single vehicle on the Southern Motorway, at Otara, which was reported at about 2.20am.

One person died at the scene and two people were transported to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition.

Two other people were transported to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
