A usually busy connector street linking Howick with Cockle Bay, Shelly Park and other adjacent neighbourhoods is closed to motorists until January 20 because of roadworks.
Paparoa Road, in Cockle Bay, which is a popular throughfare running between Cook Street, Howick, and Litten and Sandspit Roads, is closed from residential home numbers 41 to 51 next to the Paparoa Road Cemetery for “continuous works”, says Auckland Transport (AT).
When the Times visited Paparoa Road on Tuesday, an earthmover and crew could be seen digging a trench on a berm next to the kerb at the intersection with cul-de-sac Bledisloe Street, which is also closed until January 20.
AT says the works are part of its programme across the region to do maintenance, repairs, installations and upgrades to roads during the summer months, when vehicle use is decreased with people away on holidays or not commuting to work or schools.
There will also be overnight road closures for works on two streets in the business area of East Tamaki next week.
Both Andromeda Crescent and Kerwyn Avenue, East Tamaki, are scheduled to be closed to motorists between 7.30pm and 6am on January 13-15 for “road maintenance”, says AT.
