Lawrence Yule, National MP for Tukituki electorate was in Botany recently to share his experiences with the SuperBlues in the area at the invitation of Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross.
After wearing the mayoral chains for 15 years, Mr Yule said he is excited about being a newbie in Parliament at the same time as 25-year-old MP for Pakuranga Simeon Brown.
Mr Yule who visited the Times office with Mr Ross and Mr Brown said: “Though I would have preferred to be in government to learn the system, I am still incredibly optimistic about advocating issues that affect local government.”
The former mayor of Hastings District and President of Local Government New Zealand said that he honestly believes “most of the challenges can be solved”.
He should know as he was under a lot of pressure due to the gastro outbreak caused by Havelock North’s town water supply.
Mr Yule says a lot more work need to be done as there is young water coming up in Napier and Hastings which is a huge risk and has a lot of ramifications.
The father of four adult children says he is “very impressed with the discipline and the high level of professionalism of the National Party.
“I have always been of the opinion that the government has no money. It is our money and you and I need to know where and how our money is being spent.”
“I look forward to holding the Left wing government to account”.
