Andre Heimgartner has managed to fortify his championship lead with another Carrera Cup Australia second-place at the Australian Grand Prix after mounting a race-long battle for the lead with team-mate Nick McBride.
The Aussie-based Dannemora driver completed the second of four races that will be held this weekend at the Albert Park street circuit on the front row, courtesy of his race result in race one on Thursday.
The 21-year-old held strong during a busy race start to ensure he kept his second spot and was in the box seat to challenge for the lead over the coming 10 laps.
A tight battle ensued, with Heimgartner ultimately crossing the line in second position to further solidify his championship lead and set himself on the front row once again for today’s third race of the weekend.
“I pushed as hard as I could but Nick drove a pitch perfect race from start to finish – I made sure I was there ready to take advantage and I really applied the pressure as much as I could,” Heimgartner said.
“Even though it might not be a race win it is a good result – another second place and a further addition to my championship lead.
“With one race a day we have so much downtime at this event, I can’t wait to get back here tomorrow and have another crack – hopefully we can come away with a race victory before the weekend is out!”
The third Carrera Cup race of the weekend is at the Australian Grand Prix circuit today at 12.45pm (2.45pm) local time. The fourth and final race will then take place on Sunday at 1.50pm local time.
