Winners of an annual environmentally focused arts competition for children are announced this Saturday.
Eye on Nature Creative Arts is an art contest for east and south Auckland kindergartens and primary schools.
They young artists are challenged to create artworks using sustainable and natural materials.
While entries have closed, the prizegiving is on this Saturday, September 28, at 10.30am at the Auckland Botanic Gardens in Totara Park, Manurewa.
The event will also open the exhibition of artworks to the public, which runs through the term 3 school holidays at the venue.
Eye on Nature Creative Arts is hosted by the Beautification Trust in partnership with six local boards including Howick to encourage sustainability in an engaging and fun way, it says.
“This event is part of the larger Eye on Nature year-long programme which empowers tamariki to become educated in making sustainable changes for their environment,” says the Beautification Trust.
It says other events within the programme are the Eye on Nature Wearable Arts fashion show, for primary to college students, and Eye on Nature School Days, an outdoor field trip for local schools with educational, hands-on activities.
