Decisions have been released on a total of 53 community grants reviewed this month by the Howick Local Board as part of the 2016/2017 Local Grants Programme.
The programme offers quick response grants, local grants and discretionary grants with the aim of providing contestable community grants that will benefit Aucklanders and contribute to the vision of becoming the world’s most liveable city.
Decisions made by the Howick Local Board this month focused on local grants round two and quick response grants round three.
Thirty-four applications were received in local grants round two. Of the $596,115 requested, a total of $109,197 was granted.
Nineteen applications were received in quick response grants round three. Of the $38,572 requested, a total of $24,361 was granted.
The Auckland Brit and Euro Classic Car Show Committee were successful in their application, receiving the full amount of $18,000 towards the infrastructure cost of hosting the 2018 event.
A total of $8199 was granted to the Howick and Districts Historical Society Incorporated towards the cost of restoring the twin Fencible Cottage that houses the James White’s General Store and the Howick Arms.
Notably, the Howick Village Business Association was turned down on two grants totalling $56,667, each considered low priority in the Howick Local Board grants programme.
The first grant declined by the board was a request of $23,667 towards installing a replacement camera on Picton Street and installing new cameras in the town centre, specifically, the cost of the camera, installation and the licence fee.
The second was a request of $33,000 towards the purchase of “Sammy the Village Train” to provide rides for children in Fencible Walk Park on Saturdays.
