Excitement builds for Jungle Book

It’s almost 11 years since Pakuranga Heights Primary School has hosted a major school production.

And students are counting days for the drama to unfold on stage.

Rehearsing for on the all-time-favourite Disney production The Jungle Book, 150 senior students have been working on the epic adventure for the last four months.

“All of our senior students have been involved in the production in some way,” says Bronwyn Browne, junior teacher who is working with Melissa Quinn to bring the production together.

“Whether it is singing in the choir, dancing, making costumes, sound and lighting, hair and make-up, designing the backdrop and scenery or being in the front of the house selling tickets-every child has a role to play. This is to show that every part is critically important for the success of a production,” she says.

“Also, this collaborative effort is a great way to discover their passion and find out where their talent lies.”

Practising four to five times a week plus weekends, she says that the kids are really excited about the production.

“There is a huge input from all senior teachers who are leading different departments,” she says.

Making sure that more children get a chance to play the lead role, she says there are five Mowglis, three Baloos (bears) and two Bagheeras (Bengal tigers) who get a chance to play a role in Pakuranga Heights’ first production in more than a decade.

  • There will be three performances of The Jungle Book on Wednesday, November 1 at 7pm, Thursday, November 2 at 7pm and a Matinee Show on November 3 at 11.30am. Tickets available for $8 at the school office.
