Heimgartner leads the way

The BNT V8s Championship has been a happy hunting ground for Dannemora local Kiwi Andre Heimgartner this month, with the 22-year-old now leading the championship by 51 points.

January played host to rounds three and four of the New Zealand V8 championship, taking in events at Ruapuna and Teretonga.

Round wins at both events have seen Heimgartner – who will race in the Supercars Championship this year with factory-outfit Nissan Motorsport – climb from second to first on the championship ladder.

With two rounds left and a 51-point buffer, Heimgartner is now focusing on what could be a maiden title win in the category.

“I am really enjoying my time in the BNT V8s Championship – we have clinched all four pole positions, taken two round wins, and now lead the championship with two rounds left to run – it is safe to say it has been a positive experience so far!” Heimgartner said.

“The New Zealand V8 title is cerainly a good thing to have to your name and I am focused on clinching it over the next two rounds – this will mean a bit of a change in strategy, and I am looking forward to seeing what we can do at Manfield and Hampton Downs.”

Heimgartner will next be on-track with the BNT V8s Championship across February 9-11 at Manfield before taking on the sixth and final round of the title at Hampton Downs across March 9-11.

Before he heads to Hampton Downs however, Heimgartner will be make his debut with the Nissan Motorsport outfit at round one of the 2018 Supercars Championship – the Adelaide 500.

“It sure is an exciting few months coming up – not only do we have the final two rounds of the NZ V8s but we also have the beginning of the 2018 Supercars Championship where I will be turning my first laps with Nissan Motorsport,” Heimgartner said.

“Preparations for the Adelaide 500 are well underway and I have been itching to get in the car since we announced I was joining the team in December – I can’t wait!”
